Hmmm, tell you what, why don't you find a way to detect every single HIV infected person in the world, even those who don't know they have it. Then go round up enough cash to feed and clothe every single man, woman, and child as well as pay for hundreds if not thousands of containment facilities to be built.. Also, find a way to stabilize the economy after removing millions of people from the work force. The cost of all this will far exceed the med costs you think we'll be saving, by the way

While you're at it you'll also need to find a way to revise the constitution to strip the rights of HIV infected people.

Once you've managed to accomplish all that, you might want to sit down and think about ludicrous this whole idea of yours is.

Yes, we could thus reduce some med[ical] costs and prevent some future cases. But many, many "carriers" are extremely careful NOT to infect others (do a Web search on "serosorting"), and thus it would horribly unfair to incarcerate them.

Moreover, the cost of incarceration would be financially prohibitive. It's quite bad enough that minor drug dealers get longer sentences in today's US than the Nazis at Nuremberg did. Adding another largely non-dangerous class to the clinks would be even more massively stupid.

Finally, there are plenty of healthy HIV-positives all over the developed world these days, and incarcerating them would seriously cripple the work force.

So THAT's why not.

It would probably be far more cost-effective to educate more people how NOT to get HIV in the first place. Excuse me for stereotyping on the basis of your handle, but are you among those who support abstinence-only sex education? Because if so, you're most emphatically part of the problem.

Not all cases of HIV are caused by "illicit sex", which you must be implying is the "crime" for which HIV "carriers" should be incarcerated. Even if they were, by saying we could "reduce med. costs" are you implying that we simply herd them in pens and let them die? Something is desperately wrong with your conscience if that is true.

It's not a case of being "emotional".....unless, of course, it gets personal.....if YOU happen to get HIV from your "unfaithful partner" or your "druggie" mother before you were born, or from some medical procedure that infected you, or some other "accident" beyond your control.....then YOU might get a little emotional about it. And in that case, you'd better hope no one took your suggestion seriously.

why don't you just say what you really mean? considering your hypocritical, homophobic, hate-filled answers to so many other questions in this forum? what you're really saying is you want to incarcerate homosexuals. FYI....HIV/AIDS is not a "gay" disease. so, you'd be incarcerating mostly heterosexuals. and as someone else stated, why don't you suggest incarcerated everyone who is ill? with what ever disease, virus or bug they might have. everyone who has the flu or a cold or cancer or heart disease....you want them incarcerated too? or just the gays....like you really meant to say.
passing judgment and preaching hatred and intolerance as you do are sins....that makes you a hypocrite and a "fake" Christian. no real Christian would behave in such a horrendous manner. all you're doing is using religion to justify your bigotry.
it's people like you that should be incarcerated...or, better yet, rounded up and sent to some remote island where you'll all turn on each other....

yes I agree. The numbers of people with aids/hiv are only growing. If we don't do something about it our countries will become like Africa. In some areas of Africa over half of the people are hiv positive. To prevent this happening we need to loose the people that already have hiv. It would be inhumane to kill them or put them in a jail, but maby just send them to resticted areas to prevent clean people from being infected.

I also think that people aren't being tought how to have sex saftly and get tested before you do it. People are just stupid

It not only doesn't make sense, it is preposterous. There are 37,000,000 hiv infected people in the world ! Where do you plan to incarcerate them? How do you plan on taking care of them? How do you plan on rounding them up? The only way HIV infections can be prevented is Sane, Safe, Sex......it is each of our responsibilities to act in a manner that is safe. I certainly would not trust any government, especially the US goverment to protect me...that is MY job, as it is yours. This question is not only proposterous, it is ignorant...sorry to be blunt, but you are the one who asked. If you want to prevent HIV, get out there and start telling teens about the real dangers that exist...they mistakenly think it is a disease of Gays. The single largest advance in the disease is in the teen sector of the US, followed by the Latin and Black sectors...all straight! The rate infection in Gays declines each year....gays are far more prone to practice safe sex than straights. We have seen too many of our friends die in the past 20 years.

HIV carriers should NOT be incarcerated, having HIV/AIDS is not a crime. HIV isn't an infectious disease like Ebola, TB, the flu etc. Image the soaring costs of prisons if they were all in prison.

You're assuming that all gay people are HIV carriers. WE'RE NOT. In fact I have a miracle immune system and the worst disease I ever had was an intense fever. In fact, there are now more straight people living with HIV/AIDS than gay people. So deal with it.

There's a little concept called freedom. You might want to do some research on it.

But hey - while you're at it, why not incarcerate EVERYONE who is ill? Personally I hate getting flu - if all the flu sufferers are in jail then I won't get ill! Hooray!

What a nice world you must live in, filled with simple solutions, black and white issues and where fascism is always the answer.

Because most people who have HIV don't know they have it. There is absolutly no way to know who does and who doesn't without testing everyone. That would COST billions.
