Traffic lights are put up all the time, I'm curious if one has ever been taken down. I think we need less of them.

Yes. It happens more frequently than you think. Stop signs are also frequently removed. You can find out about this in your own city quite easily. Just go to the city records and look. The city planner's office can be of great help.
