The difference is that bullying is to your face, you can't bully someone behind their back or it defys the whole point. The only similarity is that they are both cowardly actions.

I wouldn't say bitching behind somebodies back is the same as bullying, but it can have the same effect.
It depends how you feel on the subject.
But bullying is something that makes YOU feel uncomfortable and hurt. Whether its physically, mentally or whatever else.
Being bitchy i guess doesn't involve any physical stuff, but still... pretty hurtful things can be said through bitching.

A simpler definition on the other hand is cowards...
bitches and bullies are cowards!!

I wouldn't call talking behind someones back, bullying.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bullying is the intentional tormenting of others through verbal harassment, physical assault, or other more subtle methods of coercion such as manipulation. There is currently no legal definition of bullying.

In colloquial speech, bullying often describes a form of harassment perpetrated by an abuser who possesses more physical and/or social power and dominance than the victim. The victim of bullying is sometimes referred to as a target. The harassment can be verbal, physical and/or emotional.

I think bullying is actually hurting the person and letting them know. So if people talk about somebody behind their back, it's not really bullying. If people talk crap about someone to their face, I think that is bullying.

Bullying is simply trying to force someone to feel unimportant or disliked. Talking behind their back is a good example, but telling them to their face is equally as offensive. If the only way a person can feel good about themselves is by pushing a person into submission, she is a bully. Its been happening for years, but people like Cho really brought the issue to the forefront.

I consider slander to be a form of bullying, assuming the person who is being talked about knows about it. Bullying is when someone causes physical (e.g. pushing) or mental abuse (e.g. calling someone names).

To answer the second question, bitchiness is being spiteful, and bullying is intimidating an individual.

Bullying is the intentional intimidation of another.

If the intention of talking about someone behind their back is to make their life miserable and to make them seem small in the eyes of others (which is the whole reason for talking about someone) then it is bullying.

I have been bullied for as long as I can remember. The biggies were the beatings and of course, having cooking meths poured over me and lighters lit (almost turing me into a fireball) but the name calling, the whispers are the drip .. drip ... drip of bullying.

That causes you to lose confidence in yourself and others. I'm a very paranoid person because of it.

If I find myself talking about someone behind their back. I have been known to find the person, tell them and apologise.
