I don't recommend Norton to anyone:
i recommend AVG ANTIVIRUS (free) and Comodo Firewall (also free) - why pay when the free stuff is actually better.
Too many people use Norton, making it a target for hackers. as long as you are a "safe" browsing person things should be fine. (no pr0n, cautious of email attachments, no downloading stupid things, etc.). Norton is also a huge computer resource hog (slows down computer).
avg antispyware, spybot -search and destroy, lavasoft ad-aware 2007 (not vista compatible yet) are good spyware removers
use firefox for safer browsing (use mcafee site advisor for Firefox www.siteadvisor.com )
for you: keep Norton until the trial expires then uninstall it and install avg antivirus and comodo firewall (download.com and comodo.com respectively)
EDIT: comodo firewall is not vista compatible yet so... you could download the 90 day trial of windows live one care for the time being... until comodo firewall is vista ready.

Just remember that the Norton you have may be a 90 day trial, so you'll have to make a choice soon anyway.
One of the main problems with Norton AV is that it is resource intensive and causes your system to be slower, especially when performing tasks in Norton. Try AVG from Grisoft or Nod32 - both free.

i find Norton very good, it does the job it is paid to do, the biggest problem with Norton is that it does slow the computer down quite considerably, i have used Norton for 3 years and up till now i have not had any problems (hope i'm not tempting fate). is it only AVG antispyware you have? if it is anti-virus then you may have problems running 2 anti-virus together, there often tends to be conflict between the 2. take care and good luck.

It's a good product but the main complaint is that it is a resource hog and eats up a lot of RAM. If you have lots of RAM and experience no problems such as crashes, it is fine.
You can also download and install SpywareBlaster for front end protection to compliment Spybot S&D and AVG antispyware. It is free and requires you to check for and enable updates manually once a week or so. It uses no system resources. It blocks spyware before it installs.
SpywareBlaster (inoculates, not a spyware removal tool)

You are quite well protected.
A lot of people dislike Norton because Norton 2003-2006 were huge resource hogs that would slow all but top-of-the-line machines down.
Norton 2007 has been completely re-done and now uses a much more reasonable amount of computer resources.
You are in great shape!

I dont know about relying on NOrton for a firewall but as an antivirus i think its the best. iv had others and it outperformed them. be happy with it i have always trusted Norton and nothing has ever gone badly. i dont use it for firewall but it is probably very good as far as software goes. if you want a better firewall try hardware.
P.S. Zone alarm is good but it gets annoying because whenever a program tries to get to the internet it stops the program and asks you if you want it to allow the program to access the internet. unless you set it so it wont. i have tried it and it is annoying . i dont recommend it.

This year I changed from McAfee to Norton mainly because Norton was much cheaper over the year, and had more stuff ncluded in the package.
My system is now slower overall - internet, boot up, etc.
I plan to go back to McAfee when the licence expires.
