I like the longer version of the names, and then have those names for thier nick names
Phil- Philip
Dave- David or Davis
Steve- Steven
Sam- Samuel
Nick- Nickolas
Kim- Kimberly
John- Johnathon
Mike- Micheal
Mack- Mckinley

Most of them are usually nicknames and your son may not like it when he gets older. If you truly like the names, you can nickname him these names while naming him the full version of it. Phil=Phillip, Dave=David or Davis, Steve=Steven, Sam=Samuel, Nick=Nicholas, Kim (i thought that was a girls name), John can stay the same, Mike=Michael, and Mack can also stay the same.

Nick and Sam are both cute names. They sound modern but aren't the weird ones that some people come up with now
