Clean the computers: ~

Go through a couple of safe mode starts (F8 on bootup). ~
Delete all the deletable temp folders and files C:\Documents and Settings\yourname.folder\Local Settings\temp
Then defrag your disc(s). Finally (or first) scan all with anti virus (recommended 30 trial of Pandasoftware.com).

Could you give the deails of the router, internet connections you have , basically the network setup.

The Resons:
1. Not getting internet on the modem.
2. Router not comunicating,firmupgrade etc.
etc.

Give a brief description of what repair you did on both systems.

Helen I assume you are on wireless. Make sure you have as little obstruction & distance as possible between your router and your pc & laptop. Then turn off your pcs and unplug the power from your router and modem. Check your modem/router area for things like electric fans or halogen lights.

Wait 2 minutes and plug in your modem. Wait until the lights stabilize (about 1 minute).

Then plug in your router and wait until all lights stabilize.

Power up one pc at a time. Make sure there are no electronic devices in and around the pcs.

Obstructions, distance, and interference devices all can mess up wireless connections.

Good Luck

Sure it is the router losing the connection? Sounds like the Microsoft operating systems.

I found that uninstalling the network adapter and reinstalling it helped, but you may want to move closer to the router to get a better signal.

Upgrade your router software by going into manufacturer's website.
