Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

I think you can have as much security as humanly possible, but that isn't going to stop an anvil dropping on your head. You can't be afraid to live, or die. Once you understand all humans will be doing both.

I appreciate the sentiment but do not entirely share it. I agree that mishap and pain and loss are inevitable in the lives of everyone. So, yes, it is impossible to be completely safe or completely secure. However, there is also such a thing as recklessness. While you may not be able to ensure that you are more secure, you can certainly ensure that you are less secure. You can definitely avoid some kinds of danger. And doing so does not confine you to a life which is nothing. As in all things there is balance. Ms. Keller had a very unique experience in life and as such can teach us much. However, her perception of the world and what it holds is far different from most of us, so in that sense, she does not speak for us all.

Consider this statement and the many meanings it has:

Brave men run in my family......

Perhaps the response to danger is more important than the actual exposure since exposure may not be under our control. When exposure is under our control, then it becomes a risk to benefit analysis that our "gut instinct" may be best at determining.

So, is the avoidance of danger no safer "in the long run.."?

I continue to reply: Brave men run in my family........

To a certain degree, I think it's true. However, I will continue to make attempts to avoid dangerous situations.

I know this, if you are fulfilling the purpose of God in your life, you can walk without fear of anything. Perfect love casts out all fear. You need to know who Christ is and who you are in Christ then one thousand can fall at your side but the terror will not come near you.
