Mine was about 1991.
Mam had had numerous strokes and I was washing every day - for hours, using a twin tub for things like quilts and pillows. Dad finally got sick of watching me struggling and he got me an automatic. I was ecstatic.

I got my first machine about a year ago after I graduated from college. I am only 21 so I have had a washing machine my whole life except for two years in college. Laundry mats stink but washing clothes by hand is even worse, I did it a couple of times because I didn't have any money even enough for the laundry mat!

That must have been so hard for you to struggle like that, I got my first automatic washing machine the year after we got married, 1985.

1997...I carted my clothes to the laundry mat unitl I moved into my 3rd apartment. It had a washer/dryer hookup in it so I splurged and bought myself a set.....money well spent!
