I was wondering if anyone can tell me what it is like to actually live in the Bahamas as an expat. My husband is looking at possible jobs there and I would like to know what it would be like to actually live there? Is it expensive? Are there lots of facilities for people living there, ie, Libraries, churches, grocery stores, recreational facilities? Is it easy to get around? Answers from Bahamas Nationals would also be appreciated. Thank you.

I think it would probably be near Nassua but it may be a more remote resort area (my husband is a chef). If is is more remote is it easy to travel by ferry to larger centers?

i'm a bahamian and live in the Bahamas all my life. if you want to live somewhere quiet try the family island. if you want to be near civilization come to nassau. nassau have every denomination and alot of churches. we have lots of gorcery stores, libraries. you have malls , movie theatres...everything. it's easy to get around you can't get loss but we do have traffic because of the many cars. the bahamas is a very nice place just extremel hot so it's best to go out on the beach early in the morning or in the evening. the people are friendly and everyone is like a big family. don't trust everyone though. be careful of some areas ... don't go in the ghetto areas at night for your safety. i live on the western part of nassau and on that side is beautiful it's like you are on vacation everytime you go outside. so try move out in the west or east not the centre if you want to enjoy yourself more

First it depends on where you plan to move into Bahamas from. Second, it is a place pretty well developed and basic facilities such as what you have mentioned are available. If you have your own transport, moving around should be pretty easy. Hope you enjoy life there!
