The part about not speaking Voldemort's name was more of a superstitious fear in that saying the name gave him more power. As you read along you will find 2 characters who are not afraid to say the name. Enjoy the books, they make for wonderful reading

yeah like everybody else said, when ollivander said voldemort did GREAT things he meant like advanced and superior magic. he didn't use the word wonderful!!

people in the books don't like to say his name because they fear him so much. it's not superstition, and for God's sake it doesnt make him STRONGER or like APPEAR to say his name!! otherwise hagrid wouldn't agree to finally say it when harry asked him to write it down (in book 1). it's a short-cut rowling used to show readers that all the characters really feared him, but harry and dumbledore only didn't. voldemort didn't really appear until book 4 so it was the best way to build up the fear since we didn't meet him ourselves to judge if he's scary or not.

It just means he was a very good wizard, creating potions and spells, but used them for evil means.

Big V killed people who stood in his way, but I have to assume that the caliber of magic he performed was stupendous
