Is the Geek Squad good? Well that is a matter of luck, if you are lucky there might be someone working in your neighboorhood Geek Squad office that knows what he is doing, but the odds are not in your favor. Is the Geek Squad cheap? No, wait let me rephrase that, HELL no. You would be much better off finding a small computer store in your area, or a friend who knows computers. You need to replace the hard drive, which is not a massive job, and surely not worth the hundreds of dollars Geek Squad would charge to do it.

The Geeks are the most expensive ever.
For now just purchase a backup drive and transfer the photos ASAP. You can find a backup drive in the Sunday paper ads from Comp USA, Best Buy, etc. Turn on your PC ONLY when you are ready to transfer the files. The more it is on the greater the chances of unrecoverable failure.
Replacing the hard drive will be expensive no matter what. You should still have the Windows CD that came with your PC. This will allow you to reinstall the OS(Windows) on the new hard drive without having to purchase it again. Microsoft will allow you to re-activate when needed due due to HHD failure.
Good luck

Geek squad is very reliable. They have fixed my pc on several occasions.

Cheap??... i dunno. It costed my 75$ to fix my pc after a virus screwed it all up. But the service was very good, because they managed to get my files.

It was a bit expensive since they didnt add any new parts. They only repared the existing ones. Also, it didnt take them very long. I picked it up the next day, and it was running fine.

Clicking means that your harddrive is going to die VERY SOON. Go buy another one. Install that in your system and set it to Master. Install Winodws or Ubuntu or whatever Operating System you want on the new drive. Now with the old drive, set that to Slave. Now you should be able to access the old files on the new harddrive and you can save it to that.

But I would immediately stop using the harddrive until you have a new one in place to copy the files to.

NOOOO do not call the geek squad. they suck and it costs a small fortune just for them to read the label and tell you what brand your pc is.

bring it (or just the hard drive if you can take it out) to a local shop and tell them just to copy your hard drive onto a new one
