I wonder, is it just the shape of their mouth or are they really happy?

Haha they always striked me as happy. Like how they make that noise and jump around like a happy kid. I love that! Also I think its the shape of their mouth that adds a little more touch of happiness. But personally, I think they are happy! Hope this helpsss...♥ :)

I was able to watch dolphin quite a bit when I lived in FL. They always seemed to be happy and playful. They really do walk on their tails in the wild and chatter. They are curious and helpful creatures and have a lot of intelligence. I got out on a raft one day and the dolphin were playing very close to me. One "bumped" me to see if I was alive I guess, one time and then the lot of them put on a heck of a cool show! I was very lucky to have been able to witness this up close and personally! Nana

Yes. You are right. Though I have never seen them at close quarters.
They do look happy creatures from all the clips and pictures I've seen of them.
They remind me of small babies ( the cute ones ), and friendly dogs.
I am an animal lover.
Till eighth grade I wanted to work with animals - join Nat Geo, or something like that.

It's the curve of their mouth, which contains 128 teeth, by the way. They are extremely playful, devoted to their pods, and willing to do anything for a free meal. Whether or not they are happy is hard to determine but I have worked with them who were content--does that count?

Yeah, its a faux-smile, though, for reals.
Likewise the beluga whale.
They may well be' happy', however I believe this widespread belief is a more direct result of our 'personification' -our inclination to imbue animals with human traits or characteristics.

Fact you may not know which is surprising because I agree with them being happy animals.

They are the only animal on the planet apart from Humans who commit suicide. Don't ask me how they do it but its a little known fact.

Any animal that is stuck in a tank, can't be happy. I like animals in their natural habitat.
