i have a 85 kawasaki gpz 550. on the petcock under the fuel tank, there are two fittings, one is for the fuel supply. what is the other one for? could it be for a fuel overflow return, or a vacuum line. it's not hooked up to anything. should it be?

It should be a vacuum line. Without this vacuum line the only way you will get fuel to your carbs is with it in the "prime" position.

VV Thank you. But he said it was on the petcock itself not the tank. Its there so fuel only runs out of the tank when the bike is running. Thats why you have the prime position for when you run it out of gas. The lines on the tank are for the vents.

It's a vent.

As the bike is running, gas drains from the the tank.
Air needs to be able to enter the tank to replace the gas as it leaves.

It also alows expansion and contraction of gas vapors in the tank.
