When it came to tampons, my mother was NO HELP at ALL! Neither she, or any of my other aunts used them! My sister and I just kinda learned together.
1. I prefer the Tampax Pearls over the regular cardboard applicator. It's easier to use IMO.
* Since you're using the Tampon b/c of PE, you might want to try the new Tampax Sports. My little sister play soccer and those work great for her!
2. You insert the tampon to a COMFORTABLE level. If it hurts while you're inserting or hurts when you walk away from the bathroom, take it back out and use a new one.
*That one was probably too far in and just not placed in the correct location.
*Or you need to change absorbency. Like use a regular instead of a Super.
3. Leave enough string for you to have enough string to pull it back out. Just make sure the tampon itself is inserted correctly.
4. If you are using Tampax Pearls, or any other Tampax , you do NOT have to pull the tampon out of the applicator. All you do is pull the top part of the applicator up until you hear a click - is you're using the pearls - or come to a stop. And then you insert.
*Some tampons like the OB brand don't have an applicator and you have to use your finger to insert it. Some people rather that method.
5. If you're confused about anything, read the instructions again and again. It's all about trial & error. If you have girlfriends that use tampons, don't be afraid to call them. Good Luck!! :-)

I think Tampax pearl should be ok, but there are a couple of things you want to consider. Since you are a first time user, the fit and comfort of the tampon may be an issue. If you've never had ANYTHING inserted in that area, i.e. if you are not sexually active, then you might want to consider trying a brand that says it's for teens or has a slim fit.
There is also the issue of absorbency. Because Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) poses a risk (you should read the insert in the tampon box, it'll tell you all about it) you want to choose the lowest EFFECTIVE level of absorbency. If your period is not too heavy, then regular should work just fine. If it is very light, then you can choose light absorbency. The bottom line is, if you don't absolutely need heavy absorbency, then stay away from the super ones.
Also, for a first time user, a plastic applicator may be easier to insert then the cardboard ones. While you can flush the cardboard, you have to throw away the plastic.
Put the tampon in as far as it goes; there'll be enough string out because it's pretty long; at least an inch will be exposed. Leave it inside the applicator and when you push in tthe bottom half of the applicator, it'll come out on it's own, then dispose of the applicator. The point of the applicator is not to contaminate the actual tampon.
My mom doesn't wear them, so she didn't teach me to use them; I learned on my own years ago. You'll be fine.
Also, be sure to buy a small package of pantiliners to wear with the tampon just in case of spotting.
Hope that helps!!

It's only the first day of your period, so it will probably get a lot heavier tomorrow. 1. Try using a tampon tomorrow morning after you pee. By then, it should probably have gotten heavier, and it won't hurt to put in. Make sure you follow the directions on the pamphlet in the box! It'll really help. 2. Since you're going to be doing sports, use Playtex Sport. I use these, and they're great. If you put it in at the right angle, it won't leak. 3. After you put the tampon in, put the string some place you can find it haha. Like place the string where your underwear will cover it in the front, if that makes sense. Or, if you can't find the end of the string when you go to take it out, find your vagina, and it will be in the opening. Your vagina is only about 4 inches deep, so it's impossible for you to lose a tampon in there. There's really no need to worry about that. Tampons would be illegal if they could possibly get lost inside you! 4. Just remember, all girls go through this. It might suck at first, but you'll definitely get used to it and feel comfortable with tampons after a few months. Good luck! (:

When you insert the tampon, you want to insert it far enough that only the part you push up on remains out. I know there are horror stories about tampons getting lost inside, but that's physically impossible. Tampax pearl is good, I know there is a kind playtex makes that is a really small tampon, those were the kind I first started with. Once you insert the applicator in and only the remaining part is the stick that you push on, it will give you an adequate amount of string, there is no certain amount, it just hangs down, you'll see. You pull the wrapper off, insert the applicator, push th tampon up, and then throw the applicator and wrapper into the trash. Being it is your first time, avoid cardboard applicators. Hope that helps.

Hey! I hope ur summers going good. Don't worry about the tampon.. we can get u through this nice and easy...Since you are going to P.E. you might want to use Playtex Sport or something.. Don't take the tampon out of the applicator. the applicator helps push the tampon far enough in the vagina. your thumb and middle finger should be on the applicators finger grips.
1) Take Tampon out of box and wrapper
2) Put thumb and middle finger on the finger grips
3) Make sure that the string on the base of the tampon is now straight instead of all crumpled up (just straighten the string out)
4) Locate the correct hole for the tampon to go in. (its the middle one)
5) Aim the tampon torwards the curvy part of your back. its a little above your butt
6) Gently and slowly, push the applicator (with the tampon inside it). Keep on pushing it until your fingers (thumb and middle finger) touch your skin/body.
7) Then, carefully, with your pointer finger, push the tampon (you will be able to see it because its that cotten tube with the string at the base of it) all the way in your body.
8) Gently slide the applicator out
9) Throw the applicator out, and wash your hands. (First, make sure that the string is showing out of your body)
10) Walk around a little bit, if you cannot feel the tampon in your body, then you've done it right. If you can, and it hurts, gently pull on the string to take the tampon out. Then try again
I hope these steps are easy to understand.. and that you get through them sucsessfully. Good Luck, and I hope you helped.
(You can check out some youtube movies for how to insert a tampon.. some are really stupid, but can be helpful)

1. It's the best. Very easy to use. Push the tampon (and the applicator) inside you up to that little indentation at the end of the front tube. Then push the other end until the tampon is inside you. then remove the plastic applicator.
2. most of the string will be outsie of your body. (you'll know if it's in all the way. If it hurts, its not. Remove it and try again).
3. Don't remove the tampon from the applicator. The applicator is suppose to help you insert the tampon. After the tampon is inside you, then you remove the applicator and throw it away.
Sometimes it can take a few times to get it right. It happens to everybody. you'll be fine. Make sure you are relaxed. It will make it much easier.

Tampax Pearl is pretty good, you could also try Playtex Slimfits. (just till you get used to them, because they are skinnier than other tampons and easier to insert.)
Once you insert the tampon correctly, the right amount of string should be out, and you don't remove the applicator until you have pushed the tampon in.
Alright, the directions will tell you how to do it, but here's my version to make it simpler :P
You can insert it sitting or standing up, but make sure your muscles are relaxed or else it won't slide in too easily. If you use it during your heavier part of your period, it will be a lot easier to get it in smoothly.
1.) Use your index of middle finger to hold the smaller tube. When you position the larger part of the tampon at the opening of your vagina, make sure that the smaller tube is on the end, pointing away from your body.
2.) Gently push the tip of the applicator in, till your fingers touch your body and the larger part is completely inside.
3). Now once you do step two, use your finger to push the smaller tube till the tampon is released. Remove the applicator, and you're done. :]
If it doesn't feel right, don't worry about it. Sometimes it takes a few times to get it right, so just remove it and try again a bit later.

when i had periods i used to use tampons all the time.it is scarey at first,i imagine your periods are only light at the moment,in which case you would use the light flow. medium for moderate flow and heavy for lots of blood lose.if they come in a tube, then u also insert part of the tube,i couldnever get onwith that so i just used the tampon alone.to insert one,it is best to squat and push the tampon up inside using one finger.(u might want to feel in side with your finger first, this will give you an idea on how your body is inside.)when you insert the tampon leave the string outside.if you can feel the tampon once you have inserted it then its not in properly or far enough.make sure you change them regular.dont be scared you wont do any harm as long as you have the string.good luck

It'll really be easiest for you if someone can show you in person. Are there any friends you trust who could do it?
I'm not familiar with that particular kind of tampon, so I can't really help with your specific questions. Sorry. Just try to relax as much as possible when inserting it. It will probably hurt a little and feel very awkward at first, but it will hurt more if you're tense. Once it's inserted properly, you shouldn't really be able to feel it, and after you get used to inserting them, it won't hurt at all.
Depending on how heavy your flow is, be careful not to leave it in too long or it might leak. I made that mistake a few times early on and now try to change it every four hours minimum on heavy days and every six-eight on lighter days. Tampons shouldn't stay in longer than eight hours because of the (slim) risk of TSS.

ok, dont panic!!! i am 15 and until about 2 weeks ago, i was terrified of using a tampon!!!!! i could never get it to fit right!!! it was very frustrating!!! here are the answers to you questions:
1. when deciding what tampon to use, it doesnt matter, but you should find one with a plastic applicator!!! it fits in way better!
2. the actual tampon(not the string) should be in the vagina completely...the whole string should be out.
3. NO!!!!!! keep the tampon in the plastic applicator and insert it into vagina...you should insert it in about an inch....THEN, remove the actual tampon from the applicator directly into vagina!!!
My only other advice is to make sure that you have a steady flow of blood, because if your vagina is too dry, it hurts to get it out and you could get an infection
good luck
