Siren frequency hurts their ears. It is 440 hz...which is pretty high pitched.

A dogs hearing is more sensitive than humans and the high pitch of the sirens hurt their eyes, so they interpret the sound as a "predator" and bark to try to intimidate the "predator" and make it go away.

Because dogs have a very keen sense of hearing and the high pitch of a siren hurts their ears.

It causes the inner ear on dog's to reverberate that frequency, which most dogs either love or hate, but regardless of how they feel about it....it makes them want to howl.

I have a basset hound who never stops howling, that's what 3 vets told me about this howling issue.

Love,
Snag

My dog does that! I think it is so cute! Yeah it's probably because of there sensitive hearing. I had a dog that would howl when I played the harpsicord on my keyboard.

The sound of the siren bothers it's ears, or the dog may feel alarmed be the noise.

Most likely it is a high pitch noise the siren make that they are responding to. They will bark when other dog bark too.

It bothers their hearing. It's weird, my wolf doesn't. She howls back at the coyotes around here.
