engine noise - sounds like a second ticking noise above the normal engine sound.

Got oil in the engine? Change it lately? Is the oil vescosity correct? Valve train noise lifters can go flat and tick. Sounds like a trip to the mechanic to me.

I'm sorry to say that I've heard more bad stories about Vectras than enough.

Take it to a local mechanic for a service - less expensive than a dealer - and try to find one on the yellow pages that is Vauxhall/Opel or GM accredited.

when was its last proper service?
could be that the tappets need adjusting/resetting.

On a service most garages only drop the oil and fit a new oil filter then steam clean the engine.

A smaller independent garage will quite often do a better and more thorough job for a lot less money....horses for courses though a lot of main dealers are good too.

it truly is the fan belt because of the fact the fan is the only factor that would exchange its load on start up. It must be spinning before it realizes the air coming for the duration of the radiator is chilly and then the grab loosens up and the fan will spin slower. Then it stops squeaking.
