But any school with a great textile dept will be a fabulous choice. More than likely there will not be a program for costumes--but several classes will be offered in it. While they are usually optional major classes, he could take all the costuming classes offered.
Make sure you set up a portfolio--most of them require 10 solid designs to apply for those schools. Take pictures of anything he has made.
Some schools specifically offer Fashion design as a major--however that focuses a lot on couture so you want to look over the classes offered by the dept to make sure it offers what you like.
Also look for a school with a lot of emphasis on the drama dept. When you tour, ask what plays they have done recently, how often they make a play and what percentage of the student body turns out for it. One with a greater percentage will have more money in order to allow him greater possibilities with his designs.
Nearly all schools with a nationally known fashion/textile school will encourage, if not require, an internship to graduate. That will be set up in his senior year for a summer or a semester internshiping under someone of his choice.
Don't expect to get into Hollywood--but as Broadway shows travel all over, it is realistic to get to work on an off-Broadway show.
