Yes, it is very annoying!

Two options:

1. Turn off your speakers when you shut your Mac down.

2. DON"T shut your Mac down. There's no need and it wastes power.

turn your sound off or down... in system preference.You've got two options:
1. Turn off your speakers when you shut your Mac down.
2. DON"T shut your Mac down. There's no need and it wastes power.
It even sounds when you have headphones plugged in, which cuts the speakers out for everything else.

Sometimes pressing the mute key, F3, before you switch off seems to disable it. I'm not sure even that works every time.
