Famine in Africa? Hold a concert. Aids spreading in Africa? Hold a concert. Small Farmers losing their farms to banks and large corporations? Hold a concert. Global Warming? Hold a concert.

"Concerts can generate large amounts of money and publicity"

Some of the concerts were free but the performers, security, set up people and promoters had to be paid how did that raise any money? 2nd I am sure that is the problem with these world problems is that people hadn't heard about Global Warming, Katrina, or Aids. Do you actually read what you type?

Some where along the line some liberal came up with the notion that a concert could change the world not realizing the vast majority of the people who went to concerts only go to listen to music.

If you noticed most of the concert goers for this "Earth first" event were drinking water from plastic bottles (as were all the entertainers), there were a lot of beach balls flying around (also made of plastic), and most only showed up for the big named acts rather than the small no names (probably because they only wanted to hear the music).

Many far left liberals don't understand action means "Action" not sitting around saying how horrible we are, that we should feel bad and that we need to throw money at a problem. It means getting up and doing something. A concert is the perfect example of sitting around discussing a problem, rather than doing something about it.

That's all the far left is really good for anyhow.

Obviously the goal is to raise money and publicize their cause. Concerts can generate large amounts of money and publicity. Concerts give people with similar values a chance to communicate and exchange ideas.

Benefit concerts are usually held for humanitarian causes. Conservatives as well as liberals support humanitarian causes. Liberals are not the only people who participate in charity or humanitarian work.

Concerts are held to enlist the power of the celebrities to call attention to the global problems because it is usually more effective than just having reports on the news or having a DVD about global warning. Having a concert thrusts the problem more into the spotlight and I guess is a more acceptable/non-threatening way to get others involved rather than having a live debate with various political factions pointing their collective fingers at each other and then throwing down. Besides, never underestimate the power of music to bring people of all backgrounds together.

Only a right winger would condemn someone for doing something nice. Holding a concert for (whatever noble cause) as opposed to say...........oh the vice-president's company (halliburton) making billions of dollars off of death.

It's called getting attention to the cause. Everyone knows America is full of pretty dumb people, look who's president, elected TWICE. White America is dumb, so getting some music will brainwash these fools into actually knowing what's going on in the world. Instead of getting all their information from FOX news.

You have to put it out there someway. People like music. People like concerts. People like being a part of something. What better way to put it out there???

Because they're not intelligent enough to come up with anything else. Libs are nothing but senior citizens who are embarrasingly trying to hold on to the hippy days.

It is a way to do absolutely nothing to solve the problems while celebrating the pain and suffering of others and feel good about themselves.
