I would like to get my mom a prepaid cell phone for emergencies. I have an old Boost mobile phone, does anyone know if that cab be re-activated? Or, should I just get a new phone from somebody else?

Yes you can reactivate your old Boost Mobile phone. However when you call Boost Customer Care they will ask for your sim card number and phone model number. There will be a extra $10 activation fee to reinstate service since the phone and sim card has previously been activated and cancel. Just let them know that you are giving this cell to your mother. You need to purchase a Boost Re-fill card at any retail store before you re-activate with Boost Mobile again.

I'm pretty sure that you can re-activate it. However, you may likely have to bring it to a Boost Mobile outlet to have it "re-flashed". This would load all the necessary settings onto the phone's flash memory to make work. The newer Boost Mobile phones actually use SIM cards, making the activation process easier. All the setting are stored on the chip of the SIM rather than the phone's hardware, similar to GSM phones.
