After the recent deluge I have discovered a few cracks in my metal guttering. I have tried a gooey mastic substance but it so thick and messy and just ends up in big blobs. Is there a sort of metal type paint (other than hammerite) that is thick enough to cover the cracks but pliable enough to brush on. Come on you proffesionals help me out I can't afford the 3 grand theyv'e quoted me to replace all mu guttering.

Thanks Guys. About the 3grand it's not just the cost of guttering it's because of new elf and safety they have to put up scaffolding all round the house (as it's detached) and thats the biggest cost

Try "Liquid Solder", or "JB Weld"
Make sure the surfaces are very clean before applying.
Cheap fixes on gutters don't last though. Gutter material is thin, and flexes under the load when it's raining and any fix will eventually fail.
I suggest that you get more quotes, 3 grand sounds pretty high unless you've got quite a big house.

Get some tree pruning spray. You know...the stuff you spray on a tree after you cut off a limb. Spectracide(sp) is the one I used, as a matter of fact sealing gutters is listed as one of it's uses. It's cheap, and easy because it's a spray. The only drawback is it takes a couple of coats.

Go to B&Q and ask there if they have anything suitable for you job. I'm sure there will be some kind of filler. You could always mix fibre glass resin the type used to fill car bodywork then sand it over and paint it.

You should get more quotes, it should be more like £1000 to replace the entire guttering and down pipes including all labour.

Ask your hardware representative for advice on this, he might be able to help you on this problem. One thing you might want to do is to clean the gutters at least once a year, even the downspouts.

the mastic should really be the best idea, try warming it up by sitting the tin in a bowl of hot water for a bit, this should make it easier to work with.

no silicone,it'll let go eventually, find a place near you that sells geocell clear elatomeric caulking,it's a little rubbery but sticks like crazy and lasts,no paint is a hole or crack filler.

simply you need to go to B&Q or a similar store where they sell such stuff... ask one of the employees and they will give you a good advice.. but i think that silicon will do, its easy to apply and lasts for ages... and three grand is too much to pay daylight robbery!!!!!!!!!!!
