Depends on the bike.
If it has a permanent magnet alternator or magneto, yes.
If the alternator is battery excited no.
it's not a good idea though as it will abuse your voltage regulator.
Pay the man & buy the battery.

You should be able to 'pop the clutch' push start it if the charging system is working correctly. Beware, if the battery is not in the bike, the positive cable might flop around and contact a ground and short out.

Depends on the bike.
My late 60's Suzuki 2 stroke road bike needs a battery or it dies.' I have tried.
