Jessica,
It was done to protect both of the partners from diseases. There were times when one had been sexually active without telling the other. Have a nice day.
Thanks,

Some Blood types can be incompatible. It is wise for each of you to have a blood check to compare types. If you know in advance, unnecessary spontaneous abortion of the foetus can be avoided, along with the emotional and financial costs involved. Why there should be a State law to that effect I know not, as I don't understand the American Legal mentality.

Sweetie long before our time,it was necessary to have a blood test before we all can get married, by law or state they need to make sure that;
1) the man or woman that we will marry does not have
illness that can be transferred to another person.
2) they want to make sure that the person we will marry is not our blood relatives..
You can find this answer in the archive if it will help you..

From what I understand it's so that you aren't related and so that you'll know if there are any negative traits that the two can pass on to their children. I've never heard of anyone being denied the right to marry (unless one was adopted and it turns out they're siblings or something against the law like that).

Its not required any longer here in Missouri but when I got married in 1975 it was. I assumed it was a disease screening of some sort. I would not allow the government to take my DNA in this fashion now. Who knows what they would use it for.

They do it to make sure you both are disease free, when I got married they didn't do a blood test because they quit doing that here but gave us papers on STD's and diseases.

I always thought it was to check for STD's............. but in California, if you tell them that you have been living together when you get your marriage license, they don't make you take the test to get married.. hence, that's why I thought it was for STD's.

it`s just a way for the state to get extra money..and i guess whatever they tell you.. what i went through was how to put a condom on a dildo.. what the hell is that about? of course you had to pay for that schooling..it`s pretty much for the state to receive more money than just the marriage license..
