Usually, the routing number is the first 9 digits, from left to right, on the bottom of your check. The next (usually) 4 - 9 digits are the account number. The final 3 - 5 are usually the check number.

No they are two different numbers on a check the first row of numbers is the routing number the second set is the account number and you should never give these numbers out unless you know for sure the person or company has a legitimate reason for having them as once they have these numbers they can access your account and with draw money...

no, everybody that uses your bank will have the same routing number, but they will all have different account numbers. the routing number is for your bank, the account number is for you.
Kind of like the area code for a telephone number.

An account number is the number of your account for the bank and your use. A routing number should be held secret like your pen number, it opens your account to anyone that wants to use it. You can pay for an item or a utility by giving them your routing number but make sure they know, it's for that one time. Otherwise they can and maybe will use it all the time without your knowledge and you'll find your account being withdrawn on without your knowledge.
