I work for Mc Donald's in Washington state and you can work at 15 1/2, but you are not able to do many things, and most kids under 16 don't last long because it puts a lot of extra work on the other employees. My boss made that mistake once and doesn't hire under 16 anymore.

It all depends on your state. Many states allow you to begin working at the age of 14 but there are strict guideline for it. You chosen place of employment might decide 14 is too young and require you to be 16.
You need to call and ask.

In Canada, I believe, with a parents permission, one can work at 15, although, generally it is 16. Probably very similar in the states.
