I am coming from England to San Diego in September and hope to take in a Padres game. I looked up their web page to get ticket prices (they are offering two for one on the Thursday) and so on, and was astonished to see that they were asking $20 to park your car for the game. Is this true? We have no accommodation booked and will stop in motels in the region - is it easier to go to Petco by public transport? Would this be terribly crowded after the game finishes?

My daughter works at Petco, and the parking situation (as in most "urban" settings) is absolutely HORRIBLE.

I would STRONGLY suggest parking out in the valley and taking the trolley in to the park. The trolley in San Diego is actually VERY efficient and nice, it only took me 20 minutes to get there one day (when she got locked out of her car - LOL).

I frequent petco park very often and there are plenty of parking/transportation options. the lots that are right by the park are the ones you saw that are $15-20. if you dont mind walking a few blocks, you can kind some that are anywhere from $5-10. I usually park on 13th and Park, which is $5 before 5 pm and is a few blocks away, not a bad walk at all. if you do decide to park downtown, i would hang out at the park for a lil bit to let some of the crowd die down, even tho on 13th, it's not very bad at all to get out of. The trolly system is very efficient, like another person mentioned, it takes about 20 mins, drops you right off at the park, and is $6 i believe for the petco park special line trolly. so depending on where you want to stay at and what you feel comfertable doing, you do have a couple means available.

The cheapest parking that's anywhere close is probably at the convention center. But, you really would do well parking at the Old Town transit center for free and taking the trolley to Petco.

Hi George, coming from England to see the Padres, is great...I don't know personally about the 20. parking fee, as I don't drive, but downtown is so fun, you'd probably do best, to leave your car at the hotel, and enjoy the walk, it is really fun down there, and have a wonderful stay!
