Particle board, MDF (medium density fibreboard) and Masonite (trademark) are made of sawdust.
The diference is:
Particle board is made of larger fibres as well as sawdust, wheras MDF is made of fine sawdust sized particles only.
Both particleboard and MDF use various glues to keep the particles together.
Masonite is different - it is fine sawdust size parrticles of wood that is pressed together under high pressure and moderate temperature (I think with steam), so that the natural bonding agent in wood (lignin) bonds the particles together. That is why Masonite is dark coloured, and has a flat side and a patterned side; where it has been pressed together.
