Terrace farming consists of building a series of step like benches on hilly slopes, these benches are supported by stone walls. Each level slows the flow of water runoff, slowing the erosion process. They also bring into tillage areas that formerly could not be farmed.

If you can make this project out of anything I suggest either clay or chicken wire sruffed with news papers and spackel or/drywall compound it will be easy to shape and paint when it's dry.
Clay is heavy as in dry wall compound spackle is the lightest and easiest to work with.
