The best software comes in two parts from slysoft.com - AnyDVD sits in the background and provides automatic decryption while CloneDVD turns copying into a simple wizard type procedure (maintains DVD structure while allowing transcoding from Dual Layer to limited capacity discs)

DVD Shrink is good and it's free.

A combination of AnyDVD and Clone DVD2 is even better as it covers more protection issues.

Both allow you to re-author the disc - take out trailers and other extras or remove other languages and subtitles. Both will also burn directly to a disc as well, compressing to a single layer DVD.

The best should be the free one that came with the hardware. But you should be fine with Nero also.
