It is measured in shade, inside a box like thing called stevenson's screen.sunshine will not directly fall on the thermometer kept inside but air is allowed inside so that air alone will heat the thermometer bulb by conduction. On the other hand direct sunshine will heat the thermometer by radiation which will not represent the correct air temperature.

Wrong! Official temperatures are recorded in the shade. The box, called a Cotton Region Shelter (CRS) is the shade your talking about as well as wind protection which can also effect measurement accuracy. There is also the Maximum Minimum Temperature System (MMTS) which has it's own housing. Air temperature should be mesured in the shade. Sun light falling on the instrument, the thermometer, will add energy through radiation causing a reading to be incorrectly high.

Generally, it's measured in the shade. One of the reasons you can't measure it in the sun is because the direct rays of the sun on the glass thermometer would artificially increase the reading, thus providing an inaccurate measurement.
