Not all plecos breed on river banks. Here in Florida, fish farmers will go to the Hillsborough river, looking for pleco holes. They stick their hand down in the hole and scoop out the pleco eggs. The eggs are then tank raised in mass. I guess you could say that they are both wild caught and tank raised. Some of the fancier types of plecos are cave spawners or will lay under driftwood, etc. The majority of the fancy plecos are wild caught because the tank raised versions are very pricey.

I would think that most commercial fish suppliers can breed them easily. There are many plecos out there so I don't think they are wild caught,

as far as i no plecs are not wild caught. they are br4ed in outdoor ponds as it is very difficult and rare for them to breed in aquariums!

They can be bred in captivity.
