I think my 5 month baby is teething. He's drooling a lot. He is also starting to get a little fussy and when I give him a cooled teething ring, he gets really happy chewing on it. I read online that many moms gave their babies "Baby Tylenol" during the teething period. How do you know when your baby needs the baby tylenol? I also read about the frozen washcloths. Does the washcloth melt and get the baby all wet? Just wondering....I haven't tried it yet. Thanx for any advice. =)

You should always consult your doctor before giving your baby any medications. Teething sucks and it's hard to see your baby in pain. Ask your peditrician what he thinks and I'm sure he can get you a more accurate answer on when to give Tylenol. I would try to give a better answer but I don't mess around with babies and medication if I am not 100% sure. Have you tried baby Oragel?

My son loved frozen wash clothes and they did tend to melt and get him even wetter (since he was drooling so much already) I just kept more than 1 in the freezer so when one started to melt I could throw it back in and give him the other.

They have these things called "baby mesh feeders" which are basically mesh pouches you put food into for your baby to chew one. They look like plastic and mesh popsicles! I would put frozen bananas and such in them. My son always responded well to it. And it really helps a baby learn how to chew it's food.

Teething can sometimes give pain and irritablity to your baby. You can initially try simple measures like giving a frozen teething ring or a frozen washclothes to your baby to bite upon. You can keep a skinned carrot in the fridge and offer that frozen carrot as a home-made teether!

If these measures don't keep your baby smiling and he still remains fretful and fussy because of teething pain, then you can apply a teething gel on the gums and even consider an occasional dose of Tylenol (Acetaminophen). Only ensure the correct dose per weight through your doc's advice.

I only give my daughter tylenol when she is clearly in pain other wise I give her the teething rings and baby oragel they have a nightime one that is awesome I havent tryed the washcloth thing but have heard that it does help. But like i said I dont give her tylenol all the time mostly when she is obviously in pain and cant sleep. good luck I know its hard my daughter is 9 months old and has been teething for the past fewmonths on and off. Also I would ask your dr on the dosage Im not sure if there is a reccomended dosage for a 5 month old on the bottle.(I think it is th 0.4 mark on the dropper but it also depends on weight so I would consult with your dr to be sure)

Except for once, I only give her Tylenol if she runs a fever while teething. I give it to her once per five hours during that time. I've never given her the frozen washcloth, but I know it melts & drips because I used to use one back in the days before central air! lol

Ask your doctor before you give your baby medications...some doctors don't like to give medications to babies under 6 months, and others are OK with it.

If your doctor does OK the Tylenol, it will be Concentrated Infant Tylenol, and correct dosing is extremely important because its concentrated (dosing goes by weight).

use tylenol sparingly, there are oral teething gels that you can rub on the gums, the frozen washrag is a good idea,, yeah it will thaw and you may have a damp baby's front outfit to change, but this is better than a fussy baby with gums who hurt

Maybe ask your doctor for the information. Babies sometimes don't feel comfortable having medicine while teething. Also ask your doctor what does he recommend for your child.
