My doctor told me a few years ago that I was in menopause. Well I don't see how I could be. All my life since I started my periods I would go through months without having one, Then one month I would have one.

I am 45 years old. I have been having more heavy bleeding for a year to almost 2 years now. I also have been having heavy cramping. I am also going through real bad depression while on my period.

My mother has just mentioned to me about a hystrectomy she had years ago.

I have not been to a women's doctor for many years. I have only had two girls. I have never used birth pills or anything like that.

Is there anything I should be concerned about? Is it normal to be so depressed while having your period?

Different things happen to different women, as you have probably guessed. Winding up menopause varies for everyone. Seeing a Gyn may help you with some of the questions that are going through your mind. You may want to try a few of the herbal teas that will help you with some of the depression symptoms of menopause, even the depression is natural. You may wish to consider joining a menopause support group in your area, where women get together and talk about the change of life changes, they are going through.

This could still possibly be symptoms of menopause but the way to find out is to have your hormone levels tested. I would recommend talking to a gynecologist about having this done since they deal with this kind of issue on an every day basis.

Because of the heavy bleeding I would recommend having this checked out by a gynecologist to see what they think could be going on. As for depression, mood swings are very common with getting ready for periods but not during. Please let the dr know that you are dealing with this as well.
