Assuming you're talking about a person:
If it's you leaving them and that's why you have to let go, I think the best thing is to talk to them and explain rationally that you're not right for eachother.
If you still want to be with this person, and they're the ones leaving you I think the best thing is to try and keep occupied with other things. At first it'll be very hard because you'll constantly be thinking about them, but if you surround yourself with friends and family and keep busy, gradually, you'll feel better. I believe it's true in almost every circumstance: time's a healer.

remember no more, change the thought or person with something else. Its not always easy and sometimes takes Lot of practice but keep trying it works with time . Good Luck!

I pick something that requires my total (100%) concentration, like sky diving, and spend some quality time without distractions.

I just rewind to when I didnt have the person or thing, and remind my self.I can be fine without it as I was before

it depends on who we're talkin abt...
if its a useless ex then i throw / destroy everything that will remind me of him
but if ur talkin abt mom, i dnt let go & i never will... she'll always b w/me
