Once your email address is on a spammers list it is almost impossible to get off. Right now, your e-mail address (along with millions of others) is on a CD being sold from the back rooms of software shops from Bangladesh to Botswanna and from Norway to the Netherlands.

However there are several things that you can do to prevent even more spam.

1. Start by removing your e-mail address from your Yahoo profile,if it is on it. The spam-industry has programs that are continusously crawling the web looking for the "@" symbol which is a sure sign the the word before it and the domain name after it is an e-mail address!

2. Use a longer address. The spam industry uses programs that try sending e-mail to all known domain names. Example: a program might start trying to send out e-mails to everyone starting with aaaaa@INVALID.com and continue down to zzzzz@INVALID.com. Using a longer e-mail address will make this harder to do.

3. Never click the "Unsubscribe Link" in any spam e-mail. This will only confirm to the spammers that your e-mail address is indeed real and that you are reading their garbage. In fact, do not even open any e-mail from anybody you don't know or trust. Many spams are not only annoying but contain viruses of other malware. Just delete 'em without opening 'em!.
You can however click that "Unsubscribe Me" button from businesses that are well known and that you trust. Walmart... yes. Someone selling Viagra...no.

4. Open up a second e-mail account. Whenever, a website requires you to register using your e mail address, use this secondary address. There are many unscrupulous websites that will sell you address to others or bombard you with spam themselves.

5. Download a free copy of SiteAdvisor. SiteAdvisor will alert you when you search (Google, Yahoo, MSN, search only) of websites that are known to send out spam. This can help you avoid registering with any sites that are known to spam people.

Treat your e-mail address just like you would your telephone number or home address....only give it out to those that you absolutely trust!

Hello,

(ANS) Spam is a dreadful problem for all internet users, sadly it comes with the territory. However, about a year ago now I stumbled across this wonderful website. Its a free online spam filtering service and its fantastic, it really works.

Its called ZERO SPAM. http://www.0spam.com

**NOTE: the entire site is 100% self service and ALL the instructions for use are available on the site itself. The first thing too do to get started is create a free account for yourself (register), you can only have x1 free account but it does work with ANY type of email service. It uses your own white list (friends) and black lists (those you wish to block or remove), you can even block specific words or entire domains. Its extremely good & highly reliable.

10 out of 10 for this service, (I get about 100 -200 spam a day & since using this service I have radically cut my spam).

Hope this is useful?

Kind Regards Ivan

Look behind your compouter and trace the thick black lead to where it plugs into the wall. Remove this plug 'Presto' No More Spam!

By actually asking this question you have been recognised as a valid e-mail a=dress by who knows how many web crawler bots and added to a spam list somewhere. I use BT Yahoo antispam and that seems really effective as I only ever get one or two spam mails a month, the rest are automaitcally detected and deleted for me.

You can never totally block spam; it keeps changing forms. However, you can get rid of a lot of it, depending on who is your internet provider and what email program you use. If you use yahoo or hotmail or any of the web-based guys, you only get blocking that's as good as they're willing to do. No options.
If you use a client on your computer like Outlook Express, you can get an antispam program like MailFrontier. Also check with your isp and see if there are settings you can use to block spam.

Get yourself a free Yahoo or Google email address. I get 1 or 2 spam emails a month, often less. If you're getting the spam you mention, I recommend you complain to your ISP and threaten to go elsewhere. Your ISP should be blocking that stuff anyway.

The best way is to set up a new eMail address that you NEVER allow to be published anywhere so spammers can't find it. Make sure it's a complex-looking address so those using software to 'guess' it (i.e. aaaa@yahoo.com, aaab@yahoo.com, aaac@yahoo.com, aaad@yahoo.com, aaae@yahoo.com, etc.) can't do so easily. For example, JohnSmith_9hh39ed7k@yahoo.com.

Sorry, "totally" is not possible.

You might want to read the reviews at http://internet-filter-review.toptenreviews.com/ and see if one of these programs meets your needs.
