I think every person is different. For some, drinking lowers inhibitions, while in others, it could be the oppossite. You just got to know which type of person they are.

Hmm, this is a good one. On the whole the answer is yes but speaking from experience when i am drunk I say the first thing that comes into my head and that is not always the truth.

All that happens when you're drunk is that you become disinhibited. People who lie when sober, will tell hugely more creative lies when drunk, because their bullshit detector is turned off.

They'll lie to provoke a reaction, or to make themselves look more important, or because they're annoyed, or to make a point, or to make the story a better one...

If someone tells you something hugely important when they're drunk, take it with a huge *bottle* of salt - not just a pinch.

Best chance of getting the truth from someone is to build up a relationship of trust over about, oh, forty years, wait until they're ten minutes from death, and *then* ask.

But even then...

There is truth in this, yet there isn't. When you're drunk, you become more confident, and perhaps shyer people would have the nerve to say what they usually would be too shy to say.

But at the same time, it can cloud your senses and make you say things you would never mean or say normally, which is why so many times people have ended up waking up in the morning wondering who that person is, sleeping by their side (1 night stands, etc.)

It just varies on person to person.

Alcohol loosens the tongue by lowering people's ability to censure their words and lowering their inhibitions. Drunks do not "think before they speak" and will often say things that they wouldn't normally or say them in a harsher manner. Be careful, however, because someone who is drunk often word things incorrectly or uses the wrong word/word placement. This can make what they say seem awful, but could not be what they were really thinking or feeling.

drunks often say things that they wouldn't have the courage to say sober but it doesn't mean its the truth. a drunks idea of the world is distorted because of the alcohols effect on the brain so its not true to say that they always speak the truth. i have often said to my drunk friends "OMG your sooo drunk" they always say no I'm not! that's not the truth lol it doesn't work is a distorted reality.

Probably. If you are sober you have to think if you are going to lie.
If you are drunk your thinking is not 100%, so it would be easier to tell the truth.

Some drunks are mellow and loving. Some drunks are loud and aggressive. So I guess some tell the truth and some don't!

absolutely! the only problem with drunken ramblings is that all tact and diplomacy go out the window. but the nucleus of the conversation is normally pretty near the mark, peoples inhibitions relax and their true feelings show through. its not an exact science but if you ever want to know the real truth you get the subject pissed.

maybe..difficult one.My partner used to be an alcoholic and said some terrible things that were not true,it is true that alcolhol changes our perception of things and also relaxes our inibitions...depends on weather the perosn in question..are they normally quiet and withdrawn.Anyway i would not listen to anyone who was drunk..if you have been hurt by words..then i suggest you would withdraw and wait till they have sobered up..then ask them about what they had said.

take care, and do not listen to drunk people.
