An oar is an example of a first-order lever, with the fulcrum in the middle, the load (the pressure of the water against the oar blade) at one end, and the effort (you pulling) on the other end.
Remember 'fle', to distinguish the three orders (f- fulcrum in centre, l - load on the centre, e - effort in the centre)
