Like a real one he had in his sleep where everyone was equal and such?

You don't have to be asleep to dream. Ever look out a window and daydream or imagine? Read his stuff. He was a great man and dreamed for equality and wanted people to be judged by the "content of their character not the color of their skin." He also wrote a Letter from the Birmingham Jail. The local whites were trying to stop the blacks from registering to vote. That's what the marches were about. He was arrested for his actions when he tried to help. Other ministers asked why he put himself in a position to be jailed and a very short portion of the letter states that every man has a moral obligation to break an unjust law. It is good stuff and he was quite a leader. That's why he was assassinated. He was getting things accomplished for blacks peacefully and the woman's movement was jumping on the coattails of the black's struggle for their rights and things were changing and for the better.

A dream means something that he really wants to happen. A dream is a hope or desire.

Most of it was likely a metaphor but if it truly bothered him chances are he may have dreamed about an instance or two. I dunno I never talked to him personally about it.
