When viewing pictures (Picassa or windows standard viewer) my pictures appear squished top to bottom. On the standard 20 inch monitor they appeared fine. I tried setting resolution to 1024 x 768, the monitor buttons dont seem to allow any adjusting there, but it is set to 1024 x 768, H: 48KHX V:60 Hz.
This widescreen monitor makes the pictures look compressed? How do I fix that?

you need a Video card that will support the max Resolution of your monitor.

First change the resolution of you desktop to match the native resolution of the monitor. That will give you a much better picture and square pixels.

Second, open up your picture in a non-maximized window, or do not force the pictures to fill the screen. You need to let the pictures display at their own aspect ratio rather than the monitor's.

The Windows Picture and Fax Viewer application will keep the image's aspect ratio, so if you have square pixels then you pictures will look correct.

it means you need to change the resolution. you were on the right track, but the resolution is changed from your computer, not on the monitor. if you right click on your desktop>properties you can change it there.
