Keystoners- or just stoners for short. No that can't be right. Buckeye wannabes? No they're called Pennsylvanians.

Good question!

I had this same thought--I was born and reared in Philadelphia, and then went to college and stayed 10 or so extra years in Pittsburgh.

When I moved to Columbus, Ohio from Pittsburgh, I found out that all the locals were 'Buckeyes' which gave me a feeling of misidentification. If they were Buckeyes, what was I?

I first thought maybe I was a cracked bell, but that only covers Philadelphia. I got a bunch of buckeyes (ball-shaped, brown seeds of some kind, about the size of a quarter) and realized that I'd have to get down to statewide business on this.

So, drawing on the fact that Pennsylvania is known for its hardwoods (provides 95% of the top-quality 'face wood' for cabinetry and flooring in the US) I decided that Pennsylvanians must be hardwood saplings. Any kind of hardwood sapling you wanna be, you can be it if you're from Pennsylvania.

I know that's pretty lame, but my kid went for it . . .
