I find it rather amuzing reading all the answers posted and answers - most American think the world is revolving around them just like China when they were the strongest world empire then, sometime in history; which incidentally was what that led to their falls ! Wonder if America is also going that way ?

lain G, Are you an American ?
I have the highest respect and regard for your former President Reagan and one Talk Show Host name Roy Masters. These two person really impacted my life for the better and I am forever grateful for such a rare human species in this world. Wish there were more of such kind. Not only in USA and any where in the world will be fine !
Can you name me another such fine gentleman presently in the States beside the two mentioned ?

America is great not because of Man's doing - granted that their original founding father meant well beginning with the July 4th history.
What is most important is that they have forgotten that IT IS GOD WHO HAS RAISE AMERICAN UP AS A MIGHTY NATION to hold up a light and to arrest the decaying world from being taken over by evil men and forces behing them.
America is great because of GOD, and America will diminished becase of MAN !
Those who love Truth and good in their heart all over the world can see that !
But. alas, majority of "smart Alec" american can't except for a few !

Joined sometime May 07 - Yahoo! Singapore Answers.
All categories I goes to seem to be talking American's current affairs and politics. there are very little subject matters pertaining to other race, cultures or events.
Does that means the Singapore Yahoo is somehow hooked on to the American's Version ? anyone know the answers ?

I have to agree with you in spite of the fact that I'm an American.
Well over 90% of the American people are completely unaware of the world around them. They also have no earthly idea of how life as we now know it can and most likely will be turned upside down in the blink of an eye. To be honest the thought makes me sick to my stomach because the good of people would be over run by arrogant, ignorant close minded people.

Well, dear old Al Gore certainly didn't invent the Internet - and the World Wide Web was devised by an Englishman and first put into effect by a European consortium.
But then again, so many Americans believe that the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic was carried out by Lindbergh in 1927, whereas the first such crossing was made by the British in 1919.

Uhm. I wonder if you know that Yahoo has answer boards for different regions of the world. This is America's. Crazy, huh?
Here's what I think: the rest of the world is obsessed with America. As well they should be. America is the most powerful nation on Earth, in human history. For better or for worse. Either way, everyone else should pay attention.
Jealousy is unbecoming. I suggest the rest of the world emulate America, if they want to have America's success.
But it's also strategy on the part of every other government in the world. You must pick on the most powerful country, out of your own self-interest. You must propagandize your people into thinking that America is up to no good.
And, America is not an empire. At least not as "empire" has been defined throughout the course of human history. We do not dominate other countries by force and extract wealth from them.
If we're an empire, we're the most benign empire in history. We're more willing to shed blood and spend treasure on principle than any other country in the world.
Feel free to move here, you know you want to. But please, do it legally.

Yes, the internet message boards were all in Chinese back then!
Actually, I was thinking just a few moments ago that "yahoo answers" is my most international internet experience to date. The other day, there were many consecutive questions from and about the UK, and today there is a substantial peppering of questions from India. I could swell with nationalistic pride and remind you that yahoo is an American-based company, but that would not be hospitable. If you are in another country, it is interesting to note that your thoughts are, at the moment, about the U.S. It is unsophisticated to judge some 300 million Americans in toto when there is incredible diversity here. Quite possibly the most diverse nation-- certainly one of the most diverse--rendering it quite the antithesis of ethnocentric.

well, this is the American board.
however, having studied international relations, i have come to not only understand other cultures, but also respect and admire them. Americans are often potrayed as egocentric and arrogant and blissfully unaware of the world beyond the atlantic and pacific, and this is an unfair portrayal. however this is a grain of truth to this. over and over, polls have shown that American students and even professionals have a rudimentary knowlegde of the outside world. i personally think that courses on not only world history, but current events outside the US should be mandatory in schools. in this globalizing world, to not know your competitors and allies is to condemn yourself to eventual defeat.
in closing, this IS the AMERICAN forum however.

I think that's just human nature rearing it's not-so-pretty head at times. Everyone want to be at the center of the world, or of some kind of world. Mom, Dad, Kids want to be the center of the household. Smart kid, not-so-smart kid, the clown kid, all kids, want to be the center of the classroom. Every single one of us want to be the center of their world.
I don't think we completely grow out of that. Look around at all the jealous, or insecure spouses their are.
It's the way we are made, I guess. There are exceptions of course. If you look at it, even God and Satan want to be in the center of attention. I don't know what else to say, except for take a look around you, and at you, and see if I'm not right, at least for the most part.
(Frankly I think this particular forum is all about, " to be or not to be".)

Yes, Americans are egoistic and ethnocentric. Of course the more ignorant Americans show it more than the educated ones. Americans are not only not intellectuals but they are anti- intellectuals and do not know or care to know foreign writers, and thinkers.
Success comes with a heavy price.

Well since the PC was invented by an American, that Yahoo is an American company and that the forum was started by Americans and is populated mainly by Americans, that makes sense especially if you are talking in Yahoo USA.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Not at you, but you did miss something. I got my first good giggle of the night.
Son, this IS the American Yahoo! Answers location.
There are others for other countries! That's why so many of the people asking questions and answers are "thinking" this forum is all about them!
I've been on one of the others. There, they assume all the answers are about their country! Of COURSE they do!
This is just too funny.
