Yes...Fog is like water vapors...smog is smoke, fossil fuels, gases in the air that makes it dirty. People say that New York and Chicago are smoggy because of all the factories and pollution they have there.

The word SMOG is a combination of the words FOG and SMOKE. When the two mingle we have SMOG.

Fog usually comes in from the ocean with a westerly breeze here in San Francisco. Many of us call it our natural air conditioning, as all you have to do is drive 30 minutes for hot weather.

I remember driving through two entire states-New Mexico and Arizona, and seeing no smog and then heading west you head into the L.A./San Bernadino area and it is disgusting. Trapped polluted air that makes entire mountain ranges disappear.

Smog has more of a hydrocarbon feel to it. Feel the need to chew each lungful.
Fog is friendlier; coastal fog the least intrusive of all, happily 'burning off' late enough in the day to still get a bad sunburn.
More like a ground hugging cloud, or drenching mists.

I agree with you - on the coast the fog rolls in from the water. In the city the smog hovers over in the air.

Fog is H20 particles suspended in the air. Smog is a toxic mixture of Co2 and other industrial emissions mixed with the air.
