It is because all the jeolous fans from other teams especially red sox fans who may finally win the division for the first time in forever still hate the yankees from the last 10 years who have been the best team in baseball during that time. So now that the yankees are having a down year and might not make the playoffs people can finally compare their team to the yankees. what i think is funny is that red sox fans don't seem to remember they were the ones finishing in 3rd place last year.

Even though I don't compare the Twins to the Yankees, several people compare teams to them. This is because they have unbeilievable talent. Damon, Jeter, Abreu, A-rod, Posada, Matsui, and the rest make up the most feared lineup in baseball. When Cano bats late in the lineup, that shows that there is great talent early in the lineup to prevent the great hitter from reaching the top of the lineup. The Yankees don't know how to use their talent as a team. This is why they are doing so bad.

Because the Yankees have the greatest tradition in the history of pro sports in this country. That "NY" logo on the cap and home jersey is not only a symbol of excellence, but a bullseye as well--for ill-conceived hatred as well as respectful emulation. To be identified as their rival makes one seem important, even though the Red Sox and Dodgers are the only ones who really have that right.

The Yankees are the paragon of baseball, the yardstick by which all others are measured, and have the hottest, brightest spotlight in all of sports that comes with playing in a world capital like New York. They pay the most, expect the most, and have gotten the most. They realize that the point is to win, and that the biggest money attracts the best players. The lucky ones know and love this, and the rest simply choose not to accept the truth--it's just that simple. . . .

Because the Yankees have historically been the best franchise in baseball, if not all of sports history. I'm not sure you've heard anyone compare their team to the Yankees this year and think your just mixing past memories with common knowledge, because they have been pretty bad. If you have heard someone say this, then they have no knowledge of baseball and don't deserve to even be talking about the Yankees, much less any other team.

nope they cant compare the Yankees with any other baseball teams b/c no other baseball team has 26 W's 39 AL pennants and there history and they caliber players the Yankees have in there over 100 year history so simply there is no comparison also i forgot to mention 1 season does not make a difference just because there not playing great this year does not mean there a bad team there history says otherwise 1 year does not make there whole history bad look at stats they don't like

The Yankees, historically as a franchise, have been very good. That's what teams have been comparing themselves to.

The Yankees, this year, are not very good.

the yankees, since they have 26 championships, most of any team in professional North American sports, are the greatest time in baseball history. I am not a yankee fan but my faily is, we live in the new york area so its instilled in you. But they are having an off year so people that compare their teams to the yankees shows that the team is doing better than the greatest team in baseball. Similar to how every basketball player will always be compared to michael jordan, even his worst years.

Another part is the fact that they have the highest payroll in baseball so people want to show how their lower payroll team is doing better
