There is no largest number, because for any number, you may simply add 1 and have a bigger number. If "a boggle-jillion" were the largest number ever, we'd know that "a boggle-jillion and 1" would be bigger.

However, there are a few special numbers that are exceedingly large. For example, Graham's number is tremendously large, and was not simply thought up for the sake of having big numbers. It was used in a very important and very technical mathematical proof. It is too large to express in scientific notation, and requires special notation just to write it down. See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham%27s_number

There are also "infinite numbers" know as cardinal numbers. For example "the number of digits between 0 and 9" is 10, but "the number of integers" is infinite. "The number of functions" is even bigger. See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardinality

And please, please, please note that infinity is NOT a number.

Okay. The largest number in the world doesn't exist, because numbers increase in value into infinity. Also, the largest number known to man is the knowledge that there is no last number. In other words, there is no largest number known to man.
But, the largest number to actually have a name does exist. This number is called googolplex. It's value is 10^10^100 (or 1 with a google zero's following it). That would be the largest number that has a name.
There you go. I'm glad I could help. :)

Biggest Number In The World

The number 9 approaching 10 and all multiples of a number such.

If you are looking for a name for a number that is close to this. It was named by a 3 year old Child. Googol. And now Googolplex and Googolplexian (any variation of a googolplex: ie googoltriplex) is the largest. However, such a number is only imaginative and a more understood, but fictional name for the largest amount that cannot be understood is a zillion.

Latin Prefixes can name any interger that may be created. However the largest Latin number known is:

Millillion
10^3003

And the one before it with the longest name:
Thousand quadringentiquinquagintillion

I am not making this up! Funny as it is. The largest number is still 9 approaching 10.

To give you an idea of numbers of these magnitudes.
The Milky way is 10^23 meters in diameter. And a black hole would take 10^googol years to run its course.

there is no limit in terms of numbers, although infinity is not a number it could still be said as the largest quantity in the world. infinity looks like a '8' on its side

There's no limit. If you say a trillion, for example, I can always say a trillion plus one. Equally, any number you write down, I can add some more zeroes to. So there is no such thing as a largest number.

note
There is no largest number known to man, however
the largest known PRIME number is 6,320,430 digits long and would need 1,400 to 1,500 pages to write out.

note: infinity is not a number, so do not get tricked into giving this answer
