It's not about whether Oklahoma City should move to obtain the Seattle franchise. The reason questions is whether the Sonics are willing to move out of Seattle, especially after obtaining 2 out of the top 5 picks in the 2007 draft. The city and fans will do all they can to keep the team in Seattle so I doubt that the Sonics will be going anywhere.

Let me answer your question in two parts, as it really is two questions. First, I do not think that Oklahoma City, or any city for that matter, should get the Sonics. Seattle has a rich basketball history and the Sonics have a good fan base. The arena sucks, and needs to be replaced, but thats about the only thing I can think of that would justify the Sonics departure. Secondly, I do think that OKC is a viable NBA market, but no more so than any of the current NBA cities. That means, in my estimation, that no team is headed to Oklahoma anytime soon.

As a Seattle sports fan, I hate the idea of Seattle losing the Sonics. Them along w/ the WNBA team, the Seattle Storm, are two teams to bring a championship to the city. Albeit it was 25 years apart. And on top of that, the sonics have been a part of the community there for 40+ years. So I don't want OKC to send up with the teams. They are very loved by seattle fans.
In short i would say the hornets over the sonics.

Bplayback- you are a jerk! OKC may not have the income, but you can buy a nice house for $100,000 instead of the $1,000,000 it costs in Seattle, so that is irrealavent! Besides, there is no sports tradition in Washington - only heroin slamming grunge rock. Oklahoma IS sports! Per capita, more greats come from there than any place else (Jim Thorpe, Mickey Mantle, Troy Aikman, etc). Oklahoma City has proven to be an excellent host to the Hornets - exceeding ALL expectations! You talk about Microsoft. What REALLY drives the world's economy is OIL my boy!

Heck yeah! Oklahoma is a great basketball state. They welcomed the Hornets with opened arms. They got great support from the people. I would love to see an NBA team in Oklahoma City.

The Sonics need to stay in Seattle. They're probably only talking about leaving to pressure the city into building them a new arena. Seen it a dozen times before.

Seattle
Median income 45,000 +
Metro area is 2 million +
Microsoft = home of the owner Paul Allen.
$50,000 to $74,999: 25,631
$75,000 to $99,999: 17,952
$100,000 to $149,999: 15,790
$150,000 to $199,999: 5,444
$200,000 or more: 6,469
OK city
Median income 34,000 +
Metro area is 1 million +
$50,000 to $74,999: 35,424
$75,000 to $99,999: 15,965
$100,000 to $149,999: 10,614
$150,000 to $199,999: 2,341
$200,000 or more: 3,048
I think Seattle has a better economic chance.
Honestly, I think the moving talk is leverage to get the new stadium the Supersonics want.
