Rule of thumb you have to be 18. There are some resorts that require 21 or 25 but for travel across the US most are 18. However with this said there are a few things you need to know about renting a hotel room. Don’t be surprised if you are asked for a CC for a deposit for the room. If you do not have one a cash deposit is going to be required at most major chains. This is fully refundable upon check out as long as you do not have any movie/telephone/ ect… charges and the room has not been trashed. Most will require you to pay for your nights with tax upfront and then ask for a deposit it can run up to $100. Again you get this back upon check out. If you use the CC for the deposit you can choose upon checkout to pay with cash. I do not recommend using your debit card if you are going to need the cash in your bank account. Why well when you check in with a CC they put a hold on a night or two, a hold just blocks the money from being used assuring that they will get payment. Again upon check out it is refundable but, it can take a few days for the bank/ CC company to credit your account. If you can pick the hotels where you want to stay and see if your parents will let you use their CC. You can call make the reservations and give them their CC number to have for the deposit. Also helps because the hotel sees that the parents are trusting their kids to travel. Make sure you have a valid state ID or Drivers Licenses, they will need this to verify your age. Just an FYI mom and pop hotels usually only require ID and no deposit unless you want to use the phone. Just don’t take your friends in to get the room send one person in and be honest about the number of you staying in the room. Yes they might charge you a little more for 4 people but, they will leave you alone and you will be able to have a great stay! Hope this helps!

To rent a hotel room in your name, you must at least be 18 years old. Though, usually they won't rent to somebody your age (young people tend to trash the rooms) unless you pay with a credit card so that if you do make a mess, they can charge you for it.

You have to be 18 to rent a room for the night. If you're not, you have to have someone 18 or older rent it for you & they MUST stay in the room with you. Ask the hotel/motel what their policy is on this before staying the night.

probably not before you are 18 and in some places even 21.

Generally, if you have a credit card to pay, no one is going to ask age questions.
