You can get a map from your hotel with all the sites, most are within walking distance, or you can flag down a cabbie, and you can see a lot in two days, it's all packed into downtown, so you can sight see, shop and eat till your heart is content.

First thing you get to town, grab a newspaper called the Reader - it's a free paper - used to be an underground press but it tells you if there are any festivals going on that week. It also has a music section and look up what kind of music you like and it will tell you where to go to see that type of music live (blues is always good in Chicago) (Blue Chicago is a nice evening spot with a live blues band - safe environment). Also, check out which stage plays are in town. The Chicago Symphony is a great! Nice place to go during the day is to the Art Institute (downtown) or the Museum of Science and Industry. If anything is going on at Navy Pier that's a good spot. Sears Tower is also nice. You can take the elevator to the top. You MUST go to Giordano's for pizza. It's the bomb!! Hope you have a great trip.

1 Go to the top of the John Hancock building and check out the observatory there. Great view of the city.
2 Navy Pier is always great
3 The Art Institute of Chicago has a great art collection
4 Check out the old Marshall Field's store on State Street - it's like what the original old dept stores look like
5 Check out the Magnificent Mile - where all the big shops are on Michigan Ave.
6. Chicago has awesome museums - the Field Museum and the Science and Industry Museum are awesome.
Have fun!!

its hard to pick, i know..but maybe this can help..
Navy pier is ok, but to see 'Chicago' you wanna be places like Grant Park and Millennium Park [free]. And after Millennium, go to nearby Art Institute and there youll see 'American gothic' the famous painting of the farm couple with the pitchfork, the museum has beautiful Renoirs too..check its site before you go, think they have a free admission day.
Shedd Aquarium is further south, its fun and worth seeing.
if your daughter likes animals, what about Lincoln Park Zoo..and its free.
Skip the Sears T and go to the John Hancock on Michigan ave for the best view of Chicago..and since youll be on Mich Ave, take a stroll and hit the shops.
A fun thing to do in chicago is a boat tour of the lake.. check out Wendella Boats.
for something to do in the evening, what about a show at a theatre..
have fun.

Back in 2004, I went to Chicago for a few days. I went to the Sears Tower, the Hancock Building, Navy Pier, Holy Name Cathedral, the Adler Planetarium, and Mt. Carmel Cemetery (I found the Bishops Mausoleum but not Al Capone's final resting place). I did all that in two and a half days.

Navy Pier, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, or the Shedd Aquarium are all options near the lake. There are also two baseball teams in Chicago, the Cubs and the White Sox. I personally enjoy the Field Museum and Navy Pier.
Enjoy!
