It really depends. It's sad that the question needs to be asked, but unfortunately we live in a society that is still colored by racism. When people say "This country is not ready for a black man" what they are really saying is "we don't want to give up the status quo. We want to retain the reins of power in white hands". I think if enough enlightened people came together and voted for a candidate based on his or her merits and not the color of their skin, then yes a black man could very well be president. Many once thought that Colin Powell would have been an excellent president.

I hope I see it in my lifetime because it will mean that we have truly lived up to our Declaration of Independence upon which our country was founded.- " all men are created equal." Of course the founding fathers were a little shortsighted to not mention women. I bet they heard about that one at home!

An intelligent, educated one, of course. I think we have enjoyed ignorance in the White House too long, regardless of the ethnicity, gender, or race.

The color (or sex) of a person is less important than that person's ideas, leadership and intelligence. I vote for the right person for the job not what they look like

Of course he can! black men and women have and still are occupying high political places...why not the presidency.
BUT, not Obama (sp?), he's too young and too militant-like which reminds me of violent muslims.
