A girl I knew a longtime ago once told me how bad her boyfriend had it in Jail, how he had to sleep in a large room with 20 or so other guys, and how they had only one toilet to share between them and so on, I told her that sounds like the berthing area I lived in on a US Navy Ship, so that wasn't too bad, then I asked her if he did whatever it was he was in jail for, she said yes.
I told her.
your boyfriend is in jail for commiting a serious crime, and his living conditions are almost the same as those on a US Navy ship, how can I feel bad for him when I spent years living in the same conditions without doing anything wrong.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time!

It all depends. Are they legitimately guilty? Then no. If it's someone who was mistakenly convicted (it happens), then of course I feel bad for that person.

Some of them... sort of. What is the point of incarcerating someone accused of a white collar crime? And drug offenses? Why are we locking up addicts rather than treating them?
