Yes, it's true. Several years ago, AT&T sold their wireless (cellphone) division to Cingular. Cingular decided to keep their name. Now with the need for global indentification, they're changing over to AT&T.

Same good/bad service - same good/bad reception.

Cingular is buy out AT&T, but still using AT&T's name.

Yes, but here is how it came about, Cingular was a joint venture between SBC & BellSouth, SBC decided to change its corporate identity by adapting the name AT&T. (SBC had taken over Ameritech, which was what AT&T became known as after a corporate breakup that created so-called "baby bells" in the 1980's.) So SBC decided to make themselves more identifiable by adopting the old corporate name!!.
